Speaker: Runtime Process Infection
On Thursday, October 15, we will be inviting Shawn Webb, Professional Security Analyst and eight-year C89 programmer, to talk about system hacking and security issues. The talk will deal with runtime process infection - injecting arbitrary code into a program while that program is running.

This will be a great talk for anyone interested in studying network security, so if your area of study (or even something you're interested in) falls under that category, be sure to come in and listen to his presentation!

Programming Contest (Updated)
In preparation for the regional programming contest in October, the WSU chapter of the ACM is holding a local programming contest this month. The contest will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 24th; it will run about 3 hours and will have lots of great prizes.

The contest is open to all WSU students. Students can compete as individuals or teams of 3 (using only one computer). A list of about 8 problems will be presented to the students at the beginning of the contest, and the individuals and teams who complete programs to solve the greatest number of problems (as determined by the judges) will be declared winners.

The time and possibly the date are subject to change based on the schedules of interested participants. (If the time and date don't work for you, but you'd still like to participate, let us know when would be best for you by emailing Dr. Peterson - rpeterson[at]weber[dot]edu - or visiting the programming contest thread at the Orange Forum)

Fall ACM LAN Party
It's the beginning of another semester, and for Weber State ACM, that means one thing: LAN party. We've made it our tradition to welcome students to the Computer Science department with a gaming party hosted in our computer labs, and this year is no different.

The party will be held in room TE 103C at noon on Thursday, August 27th, and will last as long as students are willing to keep playing. Games include Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike: Source, and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. Students may bring their own computers if they wish (monitors are provided), otherwise computers are available to play on.

Join us in helping to start the new semester with a bang!

End of Semester Social & Officer Election Meeting
We've come to the end of another semester. Everyone has tests to study for and final projects to complete ... why not take a break at the ACM's end-of-semester social. Take a break, talk to teachers and other students, and enjoy yourself.

The officer election meeting will be taking place at the same time, so anyone interested in joining the ranks of ACM leadership for the 2009-10 school year should be sure to attend as well. Joining as an officer offers a chance to be part of a great team, and looks good on a resume as well.

Be sure to remember to take a break at the social. See you there!
